I know it is unusual to have 2 versions of the same song on one record. I was having so much fun in the studio with the session players at Fame in Muscle Shoals and I am so happy and excited about this song that I wanted to see what it would sound like to record it again. I am happy with both versions so I included them here.

Lyrics

POCKET EVERY STONE

Intro - Turquoise and Japser, Rose Quartz and Gold
The days they tumble faster, too young to be this old
Amethyst and Topaz, Apache Tear and Jade
Keep these stones here in your pocket, follow the path…they say.

V1. The dogs are mad today
Another bone drug my way
Hold it up to mask my face … They say.

Probably found it in the ditch
No idea which is which
It’ll do to scratch this itch … they say.

Ch. They say, the past goes on forever
They say, the future is unknown
Except to those of us who stand together
Except to those who pocket every stone

V2. It’s time to leave this land
Maybe ride for another brand
Turn a card and read my hand … They say.

It’s time to hit the road
It’s time to lighten my load
It’s time to leave this place … They say.

Br. Oh the sprints they do move you
but the rocks they weigh you down
so you keep em in your pockets
and try not to drown

Smoke em if you got em
stay still in quick sand
You can’t hit rock bottom
if you hold em in your hand

Ch. They say, the past goes on forever
They say, the future is unknown
Except to those of us who stand together
Except to those who pocket every stone
